Collecting interests

Trish has been collecting and studying Confederate philately since she was in her teens. She was an active exhibitor in the 1970s and 80, winning up to the Grand and Reserve Grand level in national competition. Because of her expert knowledge of CSA philately, she has qualified as a philatelic expert witness in legal court cases. One of her personal passions is an extensive collection of Confederate fakes from the rare to the common. She also collects stamp boxes. https://www.trishkaufmann.com/about-trish-kaufmann

Philatelic literature

Trish is a prolific writer of articles on CSA philately, and has edited numerous journals related to the CSA, including The Confederate Philatelist, where she served as editor and co-editor for over seventeen years, early in her career. http://www.csalliance.org/CSAHistory.shtml She was editor-in-chief of the 2012 Confederate States of America Catalog and Handbook of Stamps and Postal History, published by the Confederate Stamp Alliance. https://www.trishkaufmann.com/about-trish-kaufmann Trish also served as section editor of The Confederate Stampless Cover Catalog, was a contributor to the 1986 New Dietz Confederate States Catalogue and contributes to the annual updates of the Scott Specialized Catalogue. Ms. Kaufmann writes columns and serves as associate editor for the American Stamp Dealer and Collector, The Confederate Philatelist, La Posta, Kelleher Stamp Collectors Quarterly, and a regular contributor to the American Philatelist. [1] She served on the CSA Authentication Service from 1996-2014 and was Recording Secretary of that group for 11 years; she is now an outside consultant and member emeritus. http://csalliance.org/

Philatelic activity

Trish is very active in philatelic circles. She is a life member of American Philatelic Society, Confederate Stamp Alliance, U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, and the American Philatelic Research Library, as well as a member of various collector and dealer philatelic organizations, such as the American Stamp Dealers Association, Collectors Club of New York, and Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London. She was elected to the board of the American Philatelic Society in June 2016 and serves as Chairman of the Board of Vice Presidents, 2016-2019 term. https://stamps.org/Contact/APS-Board-of-Directors

In addition to being a specialized retailer of Confederate stamps and postal history and former auctioneer, Trish is a past president of the Confederate Stamp Alliance, the first woman to hold that office. Trish is also the first woman, and the youngest person, to be bestowed with the title “General” by the Confederate Stamp Alliance. She has served on the boards of numerous other philatelic organizations. She began her career in 1973 as a philatelic auctioneer in Washington, DC, and closed the auction house in 1989. She currently works as a retailer specializing in Confederate stamps and postal history. https://www.trishkaufmann.com/about-trish-kaufmann

Trish works regularly with the Scott Catalogue editors to maintain the Confederate sections of Volume I and the Scott Specialized Catalogue, and she has also been a researcher for the Smithsonian Institution National Postal Museum and served on the Council of Philatelists on the Research Committee for four years during the creation of the William H. Gross Gallery. Because of her research on the 3-cent 1861 Postmaster Provisionals, published in the American Philatelist and the Confederate Philatelist, the 2000 Scott Specialized Catalogue was required to create an entirely new section, which precedes the Confederate States section. https://www.trishkaufmann.com/about-trish-kaufmann
