Biography

Conway earned a BFA (Theater Arts) from the University of New Mexico and a MFA (Drama) from the University of Southern California. Conway was one of the main female performers on Almost Live!. Her recurring characters included the eponymous character in "The Worst Girlfriend in the World". In 1995, immediately following a taping an episode of Almost Live!, Conway collapsed on the set and was in full cardiac arrest. A volunteer firefighter, Glen MacLellan administered bystander CPR assisted by police officer, Kurt Lysen. Both were in the audience at the time attending the comedy show. They tag-team performed CPR until a Seattle fire fighter unit and then paramedics from Medic One arrived and provided advanced life support, shocking Conway's heart six times with an AED. Following the sixth defibrillation shock, and after almost 20 minutes of her heart not beating on its own, Conway's arrhythmia was converted from Ventricular Fibrillation to a normal (if fragile) sinus rhythm. Conway was transferred by Medic One and cared for at Harborview Medical and the University of Washington Medical Center. She was surgically implanted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD.) Conway's speaking engagements include this experience and CPR/AED training.
