Tolovana Hot Springs

Located south of the Elliott Highway in interior Alaska, Tolovana Hot Springs is the most remote of the "big 4" hot springs in the region. A private air strip has recently been cleared, and there is no road access. Besides the air strip, Tolovana Hot Springs is accessible through three trails, two of which are only usable in winter

Location/Geography

Tolovana Hot Springs is located 45 air miles (72.5 km) northwest of Fairbanks in the Tolovana River Valley.

The Trail

The 10-mile (16-km) trail beginning at Mile 93 of the Elliott Highway goes up and over 2,316-foot (706-meter) Tolovana Hot Springs Dome and provides panoramic views of the White Mountains. There are two steep descents on the way in, and two steep climbs on the way out.

Amenities

The three cabins have all the amenities of home - LED electric lights (powered by solar panels and a wind generator), propane stoves, wood stoves, piles of split firewood right outside the door, bunk beds, sleeping pads, pots, pans, cups, silverware, etc. In addition to the hot springs, there is a cold spring from which to draw water for cooking and drinking.

gollark: Is there software for making a big turtle swarm dig out areas?
gollark: Oh, okay.
gollark: It should be possible to add it to the ROM somehow, if you wanted to.
gollark: How to install PotatOS on all your devices at once?
gollark: That *does* work, though not well as they don't run with GPUs.
