AllMusic awarded To Hell 'n' Back four out of five stars, saying "plenty of bands have made music like this that's full of arty calculation, but Grong Grong gave their noises a brutal, purposeful focus and feral passion that was both comic and just a bit scary."[2] Spin and Trouser Press compared the band favorably to Scratch Acid, Killdozer and The Birthday Party and was especially complimentary towards Charles Tolnay's dissonant guitar technique.[3][4][5]

gollark: You should just plug it into the wall or something so you can integrate it into your wireless network and monitoring system.
gollark: None of that puny induction charging stuff, just undirected microwave beams and a rectenna.
gollark: I think it would be better to make it do wireless charging.
gollark: You'd have to have it order a human to do battery replacements, or give it a robotic beeoid.
gollark: Get bigger batteries.
