One common illustration of problems which could happen with sufficiently powerful AI (there's even a great game about it at https://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html) is a "paperclip maximizer", which is programmed to make paperclips for a factory owner or something, and eventually attempts to convert the entire universe into paperclips to maximize an objective defined as "have as many paperclips as possible".||)
