Reception

"There's A Honey" received positive reviews from critics upon release. While reviewing the song Cécile Howard, writing for The Edge, called the song "An enchanting debut" and mentioned that the single was "Eerily catchy through its chilling vocals and unique perspective on a crumbling relationship", giving the song a 4/5 star review.[4] Writing for DIY, Will Richards stated that the band's debut single was "laying down the chorus of the year so far" and that Pale Waves had "set themselves up for extremely big things".[5]

Editor of Music Week, Mark Sutherland named the song as his personal track of the year as part of the 2017 Music Week staff picks. He talked about why he picked the song in particular, stating: "There’s A Honey was my song of the year at the halfway stage of 2017 but you know what? Nothing has come along to get close to it in terms of sky-kissing ‘90s-style alt-rock majesty" he went on to compliment the debut further writing the song "has the edge as the most brilliantly bristling-with-intent debut single in an age, as poppy as it is Gothy and a rare instantly-irresistible song that will stay with you forever."[6]

On 27 November 2017, NME named "There's A Honey" at number 22 in their "Tracks of The Year 2017" list, they described the song as having "shimmering soundscapes and a bloody brilliant festival-ready chorus" and that the track has "a juggernaut riff gets things off to a killer start and soon after, Heather Baron-Gracie’s heavenly vocals prove to cast an utterly bewitching and unbreakable spell".[7]
