The Vineyard Hotel

The Vineyard is a 5-star hotel, restaurant and spa based near Newbury, Berkshire, United Kingdom.[1] It has won a number of awards and is the primary restaurant of Chef Daniel Galmiche[2] . It has 49 rooms and suites, dining room, spa and conference/event facilities. It is a part of the Relais & Châteaux group.

History

The building was originally an 18th-century hunting lodge owned by the Foley family, who owned land locally. Grace, daughter of Thomas Lord Foley, wife of James Hamilton Earl of Clanbrassil (Viscount Limerk, Baron Clanboy) was the last of the Foley family. She died in 1748[3] without an heir and the land was sold to a Rev. Hartley in the mid 19th Century. The lodge was later owned by the Sutton Estate. By the 1960s the building was rented out as flats.[4]

In 1969, Foley Lodge was converted into a restaurant and banqueting centre. In 1978 it was refurbished as The Foley Lodge hotel. Sir Peter Michael purchased the property in 1996 and relaunched it under the current name 'The Vineyard' in March 1998.[5]

The hotel is owned by the Michael family, headed by Sir Peter Michael, who was one of the founders of Classic FM.[6]

Art collection

The hotel features sculpture and paintings by Diane Maclean, William Pye, Henri Martin, Ronald Searle, Boris Smirnoff and Doris Zinkeisen.[7]

gollark: Oh, you should use `os.pullEvent` and not `coroutine.yield` too, right.
gollark: Your thing will be running in a CraftOS environment instead of the BIOS one, so presumably you can use the `keys` library and make it easier.
gollark: This is adapted slightly from the keyboard shortcuts daemon in potatOS.
gollark: ```lualocal keys_down = {}local keyboard_commands = { -- whatever}local function keyboard_shortcuts() while true do local ev = {coroutine.yield()} if ev[1] == "key" then keys_down[ev[2]] = true if keyboard_commands[ev[2]] and keys_down[157] then -- right ctrl keyboard_commands[ev[2]]() end elseif ev[1] == "key_up" then keys_down[ev[2]] = false end endend```
gollark: Oh, right. I'll pull up the PotatoBIOS code for that.
