This book is a history of America from colonial days to those of D. J Trump. It traces the ups and downs of public issues including race, civil rights, immigration, women's suffrage and rights and internal and external threats to the democratic process, including the KKK and Communism in seven chapters plus an introduction and conclusion. It ends with more than 100 pages of notes, references and an index. [5]

It provides numerous revealing anecdotes that were not covered in the history learned in school.

It puts much focus on positions and quotes contemporaneous to the times they come from, showing how policy views ranged from poor to better at various times -- in terms of their support for the aspirations of our founding documents.

Published in 2018, some of its wordings may reflect hindsight into events of the 1920s through later years. Some of these seem eerily like those visible in the 2000s.
