The Monkey's Paw (2013 film)

The Monkey's Paw is a 2013 American horror film based on the 1902 short story of the same name by author W. W. Jacobs.[2] The film revolves around Jake Tilton who receives a mysterious monkey's paw talisman which grants him three wishes.[3] The film was directed by Brett Simmons, written by Macon Blair and produced by Ross Otterman for TMP Films, and is a Chiller Films presentation.

The film was shot on location in New Orleans and faced difficulties filming in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.[4][5]

Reception

Felix Vasquez at Cinema-Crazed.com gave the film a negative review. Vasquez was critical of how the original short story had been overstretched, saying "There’s so much padding and filler here, you could cut it down to fifty minutes without missing much." Vasquez did praise the lead performance form Lang, but concluded "it's just another goofy slasher film with a heavy emphasis on melodrama."[4]

Home video

The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray by Shout! Factory on their Scream Factory label on June 17, 2014.[6]
