The name of the title is a reference to the ichneumon wasp, which lays the eggs of its young in other insects. When the eggs hatch, the baby wasps eat their way through the body of their host.

The song "Born Under the Knife, Live in Pain" begins with a sound sample of Cheryl from the first Silent Hill video game. The lyrics to "Forms on the Other Side of Silence" are a near-100% quotation of the Stephen King short story "Crouch End" from his Nightmares & Dreamscapes collection."
