The Assisi Underground (film)

The Assisi Underground is a 1985 American film directed and written by Alexander Ramati. It is based on his novel of the same name. It stars Ben Cross, Irene Papas, Maximilian Schell, Karlheinz Hackl, and James Mason in his final released film role. (Mason had completed a further film, The Shooting Party, before his death, which was released before this picture.)

Premise

In 1943 Franciscan priest Rufino Niccacci is asked by the bishop of Assisi Giuseppe Placido Nicolini to covertly rescue Italian Jews from the Nazis.
