Thanga Gopuram

Thanga Gopuram (lit. 'Golden Gopuram') is a Tamil-language film released in 1971, written and directed by M. S. Solaimalai. It starred Jayalalithaa in the lead role, paired opposite Major Sundarrajan. In this film, Jaishankar played the elder brother of Jayalalithaa and he was paired opposite Venniradai Nirmala. The supporting cast included Venniradai Nirmala, Sreekanth, Srividya, Manorama and M. R. Vasu. This film is considered a precursor of Moondru Mudichu.[2][3]

Reception

The film had Jayalalithaa playing the role of Seetha, who is of same age group as Nirmala and Srividya, but marries their father played by Major Sunderrajan and she makes Srividya her step-son Sreekanth's bride. It was a critically acclaimed film and was successful film on its release. In this film Jayalalithaa, also appears as the actress Jayalalithaa for a song in the film, both character reflects on her stardom as well as anticipates her transformation into a meta-object, and was regarded as classic film for her.[5][6]
