Early life

Tems was born in Lagos in 1995. Her father was British, but her parents separated when she was five and she was brought up by her mum.[1] At school she was noticed by her music teacher and she learnt the piano. She would practice singing with her brother's guitar accompaniment.[2] She attended Dowen College in Lekki and studied and graduated in economics in Johannesburg.[3] In 2018 she recorded Mr Rebel - a song of her own composition.[2] In August 2019, Tems released the single Try Me. It became a minor hit and currently has over 2.8 million views on YouTube. In 2020, DJ Edu chose her as one of "ten artists to watch" that year.[4] She was recruited that year by American singer Khalid to join him and fellow Nigerian Davido on an Afrobeats remix of "Know Your Worth".[5]

gollark: So why did you suggest it, if it would not be "unlockable with a warrant" but "unlockable by basically anyone" or at best "unlockable by people with a secret key"?
gollark: A cryptosystem can't tell "is this a valid, legally authorized warrant", only "did someone sign/encrypt something with some key".
gollark: You can't actually do that.
gollark: For 2, it's provided by the NCEMC or whatever the acronym is.
gollark: (If they wanted to be a C user and thus wrong)
