Ted Smith (footballer, born 1996)

Edward James Smith (born 18 January 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. He has played in the English Football League for Southend United.

Early life

Smith was born in South Benfleet, Essex.[4]

Club career

On 14 February 2015, Smith made his first-team debut for Southend United, deputising for Daniel Bentley after an injury,[5] playing from the start of a League Two defeat to Accrington Stanley.[6][7] His first clean sheet came on 28 February 2015 in a 2–0 victory over Carlisle United.[8] In total, Smith made four starts for Southend during the 2014–15 season.[6] He was released by Southend at the end of the 2018–19 season.[9]

International career

Smith has represented England at under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels.[10]
