Sydney J. Yard

Sydney J. Yard (1855 - January 2, 1909) was a British-born American painter who became "one of the most famous watercolor artists in the United States".[1]

Life

Yard was born in 1855 in England.[2] He was trained as a painter in London, and he emigrated to the United States.[2]

Yard first opened a studio in San Jose, California.[2] Around 1900, he relocated to the art colony of Carmel-by-the-Sea.[2] He became "one of the most famous watercolor artists in the United States".[1][3] He was also an oil painter.[2]

Yard was marrid twice. His daughter from his first marriage married the painter Charles Chapel Judson.[2] Yard died on January 2, 1909 in Carmel-by-the-Sea.[1]
