Sukhdeep Sangwan

Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan, AVSM, SM** is a General Officer serving in the Indian Army. He is currently the 20th Director General of Assam Rifles. He was appointed to the position on 14th May 2018. [1]

Early life and education

Sangwan graduated from the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington Cantonment and the National Defence College in Delhi.

Career

Lieutenant General Sangwan was commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles in 1982 and has served in various commands, staff, and instructional assignments.

The General Officer has commanded his Battalion, a Brigade, and a Division along the Line of Actual Control on the Northern Frontiers in the High Altitude Area and has also served in the counter-insurgency operations in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and Nagaland.

He was the first Brigadier General Staff (Operations) of the much talked about Mountain Strike Corps. Having traveled extensively within and outside India, the General Officer has vast experience in the fields of Leadership, HR, and Strategic Affairs. He also handled the functioning of the Tri-Services Training Institutes, namely National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, Military Institute of Technology, and College of Defence Management at the helm of the Training & Doctrine (TRADOC) branch of HQ IDS in New Delhi.

Brig Sukhdeep Sangwan was awarded the Sena Medal in 2012, on Republic Day.[2]

Personal Life

He is an avid writer and writes poetry. Lieutenant General Sangwan has authored a book called “Integrated Force Projection by India” and co-authored another one called “Comprehensive National Power.” In addition to this, he contributes to various articles for professional journals.

He is married and has two daughters, both working in the corporate world. His spouse, Mrs. Sangeeta Sangwan, is an academician. She worked for almost 18 years, after which, she switched to the “Environmental Awareness” domain.
