Sub Rosa (company)

Sub Rosa is a strategy and empathic design studio based in New York City[1]. The name sub rosa is Latin for "under the rose" referring to conversations being held in secret.[2] Michael Ventura founded the company in 2004 and serves as its CEO. Some of Sub Rosa's most notable work includes the White House's 2016 Every Kid in a Park campaign[3][4], brand strategy and website design for Tiger Woods[5][6] , and campaigns for Pantone[7].

History

  • Michael Ventura founded Sub Rosa in 2004.[2]
  • The company was largely focused on digital work until 2008,[2] when Sub Rosa implemented an approach to work on digital projects as well as strategic and experiential assignments.
  • Advertising Age named Sub Rosa the Small Agency of the Year in July 2010.[8]
  • The company launched La Petite Mort, a bi-annual creative writing and photography publication featuring works of the company's employees in January 2014.[9]
  • In March, 2016 Sub Rosa launched Applied Empathy, a speaker and podcast series.[10].
  • In May 2017, Sub Rosa released Questions & Empathy, a deck of cards marketed by the company to "improve empathic thinking."[11][12][13].
