Stephane Legar

Stephane Gagba (born May 13, 1998), better known as Stephane Legar, is an Israeli singer, dancer, and model. His stage name is Legar or Le Gar – short for Le Garcon, "the Boy" in French. Many Israelis call him also by his mononym Stephane.

Early life

Stephane Gagba was born in Bat Yam, Israel, to Christian parents from Togo. His parents were foreign diplomats working in the Nigerian embassy in Israel. He has an older sister. As a child he spent most of his holidays visiting Togo.

At the age of 12, Legar moved with his family to Holon near Tel-Aviv. He studied in the youth village Mikveh Israel, in its French sector. He decided to remain in the country and learn Hebrew. After obtaining Israeli citizenship, he served in the Israeli Defense Forces in a unit responsible for explaining the recruitment process to high schoolers.[1]

Career

In 2016, a few days after he uploaded his first dance tutorial, it went viral. In almost every neighborhood in Israel you could see groups of children holding their phones while imitating Stephane’s moves. In 2019, he became one of the most popular artists in Israel.

Personal life

His mother language is French but he is fluent in English, Hebrew, Ewe and Spanish. Stephane celebrates the Jewish holidays with his friends, as well as Christmas. [2]
