St Columba's Roman Catholic High School, Dunfermline

St Columba's High School is a six-year comprehensive Roman Catholic secondary school, located in Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland. The School's rector is Kevin O'Connor. The Senior Leadership Team consists of the rector and depute heads Karen Kelsey, Chris McKay and Donna Canning.

History

The original St Columba’s High School was opened in 1922 in Cowdenbeath as a combined Catholic senior secondary for all Fife pupils and a junior secondary for pupils from the immediate Cowdenbeath area. In 1959, the new St Andrew’s High School in Kirkcaldy took on the role of the Catholic senior secondary and St Columba’s became a junior high school with a catchment area covering Dunfermline and west Fife. The present school buildings were constructed in 1969, at which point the old junior high school in Cowdenbeath was closed. St Columba’s celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2009.

Under Local Government reorganisation in 1973, authority for the running of St Columba’s was transferred from the County Council to the newly formed Fife Regional Council. The school then developed into a six-year Catholic co-educational comprehensive school in line with the Education Authority policy.

All pupils come to school wearing the school blue tie with its Latin motto “Tenui Nec Dimittam”, which means, “I will hold and not let go”.

gollark: I mean. Maybe it could work in small groups. But small tribe-type setups scale poorly.
gollark: 1. Is that seriously how you read what I was saying? I was saying: fix our minds' weird ingroup/outgroup division.2. That is very vague and does not sound like it could actually work.
gollark: I'm pretty sure we *have* done the ingroup/outgroup thing for... forever. And... probably the solutions are something like transhumanist mind editing, or some bizarre exotic social thing I can't figure out yet.
gollark: I mean that humans are bad in that we randomly divide ourselves into groups then fiercely define ourselves by them, exhibit a crazy amount of exciting different types of flawed reasoning for no good reason, get caught up in complex social signalling games, come up with conclusions then rationalize our way to a vaguely sensible-looking justification, sometimes seemingly refuse to be capable of abstract thought when it's politically convenient, that sort of thing.
