St. Joseph's Cathedral, Ituiutaba

The St. Joseph's Cathedral[1] (Portuguese: Catedral São José) Also Ituiutaba Cathedral It is a Catholic church located in Ituiutaba, in the state of Minas Gerais[2] in Brazil.[3] Consecrated to St. Joseph, it is the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Ituiutaba.

In 1832 the father Antonio Dias Gouveia founded a chapel around which arose the city of Sao Jose do Tijuco, that gave rise to Ituiutaba. The Locality São José do Tijuco was created in 1839, but the creation of the parish only occurred on November 7, 1866, through Provincial Law 472. Instead of the chapel was erected a new headquarters, completed in 1862.

In November of 1938, the church of San José was destroyed by a fire in which the furniture, the Tabernacle, clothes and images were lost. The ruins that remained of the fire were demolished in 1939, when the first stone of the present temple was placed on March 19. The construction was completed in 1959. Since the creation of the Diocese of Ituiutaba on October 16, 1982, the parish has become a cathedral.
