Srinivasa Gowda

Srinivasa Gowda is a Kambala jockey from Mudbidri, Karnataka. He is also known as Indian Usain Bolt, Gowda came into limelight after his Kambala sprint broke Usain Bolt's world record in hundred meters.[1] Gowda reportedly ran 142.5 metres in 13.62 seconds along with his racing buffalo pair.[2]

Recognition

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju offered to arrange trials for Gowda on behalf of Sports Authority of India.[3] The minister also promised to arrange training for Gowda by SAI coaches.[4] He was given a cheque of Rs 3 lakh by Karnataka chief minister. However, Gowda refused to go for Sports Authority of India trials because Kambala is an altogether different sports from on-track sprint.[5]

Aftermath

Gowda said that he will start training with SAI only after the Kambala season is over.[6]

gollark: It's not like you need most cars to be able to satisfy every eventuality.
gollark: As I sort of said, I think having a personal car around all the time which is designed for really long trips and incurs a lot of expense that way is kind of wasteful.
gollark: It could be done partly manually for now anyway.
gollark: It would be pretty good, though. You could actually replace dying parts (curse nonreplaceable phone batteries!), get upgrades as technology improves, and with eventual infrastructure support swap batteries at stations on roads or something.
gollark: If the battery modules were actually standardized you could swap them out as needed, which would be neat.
