Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College was established in 1996 by Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust under the stewardship of Dr M.Mohan Babu, a film artist and former member of Rajya Sabha.

Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College is one of the largest institutions in Andhra Pradesh and one-of-its-kind in Rayalaseema offering BTech, MTech, Diploma, MCA and MBA programmes. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA), Andhra Pradesh.

The College has been accorded Autonomous Status by the UGC, New Delhi in 2010-11 which was extended for six years (from 2016-17 to 2021-22).

History

Dr. M. Mohan Babu’s keen interest towards learning and academics comes from his father, Narayana Swamy Naidu, a teacher and headmaster in a school in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. Dr. M. Mohan Babu set up SVET as a hub of knowledge and academic excellence. People of all nations, races, beliefs, social strata or academic background are welcome. What once started off as an institution with 216 students, it has risen to be an institution with close to 10000 students, 5 colleges and two schools. The trust’s institutions have a cumulative full-time faculty of over 350, initially starting off as 10. SVET is the largest private institution in the Rayalaseema region and operates in collaboration with the Governments of India and Andhra Pradesh.

Courses Offered

The college is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, A.P. and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Five branches have NBA accreditation. The College now offers 8 B.Tech programs; 8 M.Tech programs; MCA Program; and 3 Doctoral Programs. AICTE has also accorded permission for 2nd Shift Polytechnic from the academic year 2009-10 and presently 5 Diploma courses are being offered. Today, Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College is one of the largest, most admired and sought after Institutions in Andhra Pradesh.

B.Tech.

Minimum qualification for admission to I Year of B.Tech. is a pass in the Intermediate (10+2) held by Board of Intermediate Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Or an exam equivalent, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects. Admission to the college is made through a common entrance test (EAMCET) conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

M.Tech.

Minimum qualification for admission to I Year of the M.Tech. is a pass in the B.Tech. / B.E. conducted by any University or another equivalent examination. Admission to the college is made through a common entrance test (PGECET/GATE).

M.C.A.

Minimum qualification for admission to I Year of MCA is a pass in B.Sc./B.Com./ BCA conducted by any University or any other equivalent examination. Admission to the college is made along through a common entrance test (ICET).

Diploma

Minimum qualification for admission to I Year of the Diploma is a pass in the Standard 10 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh or any other equivalent examination. Admission to the college is made through a common entrance test (POLYCET) conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Sreenivasa Chakravarthi, Assistant professor of CSE. Over the last 25 years or so, it has SVET has emerged as the alma mater for 25,000 students across study streams. The members of the team support each other with information on scope for opportunities and other events.

Students Chapter

Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College has a unit for students chapter[4], that is affiliated several organizations and their professional chapters that exist for student-benefit. Some of them being Indian Society for Technical Education(ISTE), Instrument Society of India(ISI), Computer Society of India(CSI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic(IEE), Association of Computing Machinery and Society of Automotive Engineers India(ASMSAEI). These chapters offer students the scope to present technical papers in seminars, symposium and even participate in quiz competitions.

Annual Day

All the institutions under the aegis of Sree Vidyanikethan commemorate 19 March every year as the Annual Day[5]. It is the birthday of the Founder Dr. M. Mohan Babu that has been chosen for the milestone event.

Mohana Mantra

Mohana Mantra[6] is the annual National Level Techno-Cultural fest hosted by Sree Vidyanikethan. It includes contests and competitions, presentations, workshops, tech and non-tech quizzes, Sahiti Mantra, guest lectures, robotics, sport events, dance, singing, drama, painting and lot more. It has students from Sree Vidyanikethan and other institutions as well, who come together to showcase their talent, giving a glimpse into their future. It started in 2013 as an inter-college fest and has grown into a stage where pride is contested for, by about 50,000 students from across southern states, for 3 rewarding and fun-filled days.
