History

Dr. Gerald L. Wallace founded Springhill Memorial Hospital (later renamed Springhill Medical Center) as the first and only private hospital in Mobile, Alabama. It opened on January 10, 1975.

It is my right to be uncommon...if I can.

To seek God's will first and then pursue the opportunity at hand, with persistence and perseverance. Nothing's impossible - just get on with the task at hand. Limited only by my own vision. To take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. To prefer the thrill of challenge to the stale calm of utopia. To think and act for myself, then share the benefits of my creation. As a doctor, to recognize the vital importance of the physician's input in designing and creating an ideal hospital environment.

As a hospital founder, to accept challenge, anticipate, then answer the needs. We at Springhill Memorial Hospital will rewrite the traditional and make the most advanced a common occurrence. To build a medical center second to none.

To face the world boldly and say, this I have done.

Then to remember the words of Sir William Osler: "What has been accomplished is only an earnest of what shall be done in the future. Upon our heels a fresh perfection must tread, born of us, fated to excel us..."

Dr. Gerald L. Wallace, Words From Our Founder

gollark: What's this notation with R{whatever}?
gollark: I see, you have changed it.
gollark: What do you mean?
gollark: Which I think just requires that `(x^2 − y^2)/8xy` and `8xy` not be zero.
gollark: The question is probably just asking "what is required to be the case for that to not be undefined".
