There are currently three recognized species in this genus:[2]
- Spirinchus lanceolatus (Hikita, 1913)
- Spirinchus starksi (Fisk, 1913) (Night smelt)
- Spirinchus thaleichthys (Ayres, 1860) (Longfin smelt)
