South Shields FC International Tournament
The South Shields International Tournament is an association football invitational tournament held by South Shields F.C. in England.[1] It is held every pre-season in the summer, following the first edition in 2018. The current champions are Southampton F.C.[2]
History
The first tournament featured four teams. These were South Shields, Southampton, Celtic and Marseille.[3][4] Southampton beat hosts' South Shields 3-0 to put them in the final. Marseille went on to the final as their match vs Celtic was abandoned after 69 minutes where they were leading 1-0 due to a thunderstorm.[5] Since they were winning, they were able to advance.[6] Southampton beat Marseille in the final 2-0.[7]
