South Extension

South Extension is a neighbourhood of South Delhi, India. Often prefixed with adjectives such as Posh and Tony, the neighbourhood is considered to be one of the wealthier areas in Delhi. It is also known to be the home to some of the wealthiest business families of the city. Situated on the Ring Road, Delhi, just east of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. It is divided into two parts - South Extension I and South Extension II .[1]

A Delhi Metro station as part of Metro's Phase III extension has started commercial operations from 6 August 2018.

Description

Located on Ring Road, South Extension (known to locals as "South Ex") is a huge neighbourhood in South Delhi and is divided into two parts: South Extension - Part I and South Extension - Part II. South Extension is also known to be one of Delhi's most high-end markets. Along with Connaught Place and Khan Market, South Extension is known to cater to the shopping desires of the rich and the elite. The sitting MP (Member of Parliament) of the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, Meenakshi Lekhi is also a resident of South Extension.

There are many institutes (Coaching Centres, Language Institutes, Computer Institutes) in the locality. These include Aakash Institute, Nivedita Classes, Aptech, TGC, Achievers Point, NIIT, Arena Multimedia, PACE IIT and others.

South Extension is also home to many famous eating joints and restaurants such as the famous Bengali Sweets Center in South Ex Part I with Haldiram & Moti Mahal Restaurant, etc. Pubs such as the Studio XO Bar, The Bar Cat, and Da Code add a lot to the nightlife.

There are many good bespoke tailoring showrooms such as Iqbal Bros south ex, top-notch, etc. For fitness freaks, the market boasts of leading gym chains such as Fitness First and Anytime Fitness.[2]
