Shrub (band)

Shrub is a seven piece reggae, rock and rap band from Columbus, Ohio. The band released their debut album, Senorita, in February 2010 and was voted by readers as High Times magazine's Unsigned Band of the Month in September 2010.[1] In September 2013, Shrub released their first full-length album: Highceratops.

History

Shrub formed in February 2010 when founding member Jay Shrub teamed up with Blaine Dillinger (current guitar player for Clear Conscience) to produce and record their debut album, Senorita. The band features Kevin Oliver, a former guitar player for George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic.[2] Senorita features the respected artwork of Opie Ortiz from the Long Beach Dub Allstars.[3] The album also features a guest appearance by DJ Rasta Root (former DJ for Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest).[4]

The band was voted by readers as High Times magazine's Unsigned Band of the Month in September 2010.[1]

In September 2013, Shrub released their first full-length album, Highceratops. The album features the guitar work of Shrub's latest addition to its full-time lineup, Kevin Oliver. It also features guest appearances by C-Money of Slightly Stoopid, Dubmatix, and One-Eyed Doll.[5]

The band was scheduled to play at the 2014 Reggae In The Hills Festival in Northern California.[6]

  • The song, "Headphones" by Tropidelic on the All Heads Unite album (2012), which also features vocals by Jul Big Green.
