Career

Shlohmo, born Henry Laufer, is a musician and artist from Los Angeles. Known for his experimental productions that combine far ranging influences of shoegaze, R&B, doom metal, screw, acid and IDM, Laufer has released three studio albums to critical acclaim, Bad Vibes (2011), Dark Red (2015), and The End (2019), as well as several popular EP's and collaboration mixtapes.

Founder of record label and artist collective, Wedidit Records, Laufer first received attention for his early releases. Particularly 2011's 'Bad Vibes', his first full-length LP which became an early staple of the lo-fi bedroom producer genre internationally. The records single “Places” reached #2 on the iTunes electronic charts.

Following 'Bad Vibes', Shlohmo continued releasing EP's, “Vacation” (2012) and “Laid Out” (2013). During this time Shlohmo was also releasing a prolific amount of remixes, notably remixing Drake & The Weeknd's “Crew Love”, which garnered the attention of The Weeknd himself. He reached out to Shlohmo publicly on twitter asking to make it the official remix for the song. During this period Shlohmo was also working on his first productions for vocalists, notably producing Banks’ single “Brain.”

In 2014 Shlohmo released a collaborative project with singer Jeremih. The “No More” EP was set to be released via Def Jam/ Wedidit but was instead leaked online for free and never officially released on streaming platforms. Yet still the EP became widely circulated and critically acclaimed nonetheless, remaining on mixtape charts for weeks. The EP continues to be referenced as an important and transformative moment in R&B production, and one of the last cult mixtapes still unavailable on streaming platforms.

While Shlohmo's next studio album could have easily veered in a more commercial direction, Shlohmo did quite the opposite. 2015 brought his 2rd LP, “Dark Red”, a completely instrumental record and a far more intense listen than 2011's ‘Bad Vibes’. Heavy, loud, raw and distorted, Dark Red was received well by many but a harsh and alienating listen for some fans. The LP has since become another beloved work with the iconic rose cover art becoming a common tattoo for Shlohmo fans worldwide. The album reached #10 on the billboard Dance/Electronic chart. Shlohmo toured Dark Red differently than his previous solo tours, playing live guitar, keys and samplers with an accompanying band of drummer Bill Deleles + fellow Wedidit member D33J on backing guitar and synth.

Shlohmo's next year was filled with production and studio work for other artists, namely producing early tracks for Post Malone, Tory Lanez, Lil Yachty, Corbin (Spooky Black), and Yung Lean.

2017 brought the release of Corbin's debut LP “Mourn”, Shlohmo's first step into executive production. The whole LP was written and recorded exclusively at Wedidit's studio in Los Angeles and produced entirely by Shlohmo & D33J. Corbin and Shlohmo co-headlined a North American tour following the album's release, with support from D33J and Psymun.

Shlohmo started a free mix series and visual collaboration titled “For Tha Summer” that showcases Shlohmo's experimental sample based rap remixes combined with visual accompaniment of spliced and collaged sampled videos (by Low Limit) that is only viewable on YouTube. The mix is now in its 4th annual edition.

2018 brought more studio work and production notably producing 2 tracks on Joji's debut album, while readying his own next solo album.

Shlohmo released his 3rd LP “The End” in March 2019. With a large street campaign featuring repeating images of newly disguised Shlohmo in wig and glasses, resembling some kind of cult leader, the words “THE END IS NEAR” in bold. He became one of the only artists with a fully instrumental album to be featured on a Spotify Times Square billboard.
