History
In the early 20th century County Hall in Hobson Street had been the local facility for dispensing justice and the meeting place of Cambridgeshire County Council.[1] However, after the Hobson Street building proved to be too small, the County Council decided to erect a new building on the site of a former 19th century prison adjacent to Castle Hill.[1] The new building, which was designed by Herbert Henry Dunn in the Neo-Georgian style,[2] was completed in 1933.[3] In 2018 the County Council announced plans to move to a smaller purpose-built facility at Alconbury.[4]
gollark: I mean, unless you don't mind artisanal handmade 100μm transistors.
gollark: You *can* just buy a desktop computer of some kind as a decent substitute, there's much more choice there, but not (unlike in phones) extra ethical™ computer parts.
gollark: Oh, so NOT supply chains but just "there aren't replacements for all things".
gollark: Do you mean "supply chains"?
gollark: Ideally, there would be some mechanism for people to say "no, I do not agree with companies doing X", and then to redirect capital™ to others, and people would use it. Unfortunately, this sort of exists (boycotts) but is impractical.
