Located on the harbor near the city center, the hotel is adjacent to Hjertnes Civic and Theater Center. The hotel houses Restaurant Kosmos and Park Bar, as well as a nightclub known as The Park at 14th. The hotel has a heated saltwater pool, saunas, solariums, and a gym.[2] The hotel was designed by architect Arnstein Arneberg, and opened as “The Whaling House” (Hvalfangstens Hus) in 1959. It was frequently visited by shipping magnate Anders Jahre.
Park Hotel is considered a city landmark.[5] Three restaurants are located at the hotel: Kosmos, Parkstuen, and Vinstuen.[6] It is a four-star hotel.[7]
History
The first parts of Hvalfangstens Hus were completed in the fall of 1959. The hotel was placed at the former property of Socitetsbygningen which belonged to Sandefjord Spa. The property lies next to the Bathing Park ("Badeparken") and the harbor. A heated seawater pool was added in 1967 along with saunas, tanning beds, and a gym.[8]
