Personal life

Mitchell was born on 27 July 1967 in Los Angeles, California, the son of a garment manufacturer.[2] Mitchell is Jewish, of Ukrainian background.[3] In 1990, he married Jeannette Robbins. The two had four children together before divorcing in 1997. During Mitchell's marriage to Robbins, police were called to the couple's home to investigate reports of domestic abuse. In 1996, Mitchell was convicted of beating his wife. He was given three years’ probation and ordered to perform community service and attend counseling classes for spouse abusers. After violating his probation, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail.[4]

In January 2002, Mitchell stated on Entertainment Tonight (1981) that his arrests for spousal abuse stemmed from trying to protect his kids from their mother's abuse. He says that his wife was addicted to drugs throughout their marriage and that she abused the children physically, which caused him to intervene. He also claims that his wife then sold the spousal abuse stories to various tabloids. Today, Sasha has full custody of his four children, and his ex-wife is only allowed five supervised visits with the children every year.[5]

In December 2010, Sasha married his second wife Rachel Mitchell, also known as Sharmaine Rayner. Sasha filed for divorce from Rachel in spring of 2015.[6]

Prior to acting, Mitchell was often used as a model for Bruce Weber's fashion photography.[7]

His best-known role came on the ABC sitcom Step by Step, where he played Cody Lambert, the nephew of actor Patrick Duffy's character Frank Lambert. Duffy had also played the uncle of Mitchell's character on Dallas. Mitchell's character Cody was based on his personal life experiences.
