Salina Saibi

Salina Saibi (born 10 January 1982) is a Malaysian actress and model.[1] She is best known for her role in police procedural dramas such as CID 3278 and Gerak Khas Since starting her acting career in 2001, Salina in 2009 won her maiden award in Best Supporting Actress in Malaysia Film Festival through her acting character as Amy in the film Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam directed by Syamsul Yusof.[2]

Early life and education

She was born on 10 January, 1982 in Kuala Lumpur and is the second child of five siblings. Salina graduated with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

Career

Before venturing into acting, Salina Saibi first began her early career as a singer,[3] although it is unclear whether she ever recorded an album or not.[3] At the beginning of her involvement in acting, Salina has acted in dozens of dramas and telefilms on several local TV stations including RTM, TV3, TV9 and Astro.

As an actress who is disciplined, committed, focused, very tough and can play whatever character is given, it can be said that Salina is a versatile actress. She became known through the character of Inspector Rita in the drama series CID 3278 which also stars Faizal Yusof, Along Eyzendy, Kamal Affandi Hashim, Azman Nor and others.[3]

In 2007, Salina was invited by Skop Production's Yusof Haslam to star in the Gerak Khas police procedural drama series in which she played a supporting role in several episodes including "Mystery Elisa" from the eighth season of the series, and a year later, as Inspector Salina.[4][5] Since then, she has served extensively at Skop Productions.

Salina starred with Nabila Huda in the 2009 social action drama film, Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam directed by Syamsul Yusof; she plays the role of Amy, a bohsia girl who practices a free lifestyle, it also stars Shaheizy Sam, Johan Raja Lawak, Aaron Aziz and Diana Danielle. Her performance in the film makes Salina to win the Best Supporting Actress at the 21st Malaysia Film Festival.[6]

Salina appeared in two films released simultaneously in 2011, the horror film Khurafat: Perjanjian Syaitan in which her character as Zura, Anna's close friend starring Sabrina Ali, and the romantic comedy Aku Bukan Tomboy, Salina plays the role of Sam, a girl who has feelings for Farisha starred by Scha Al-Yahya. The film requires her to wear a corsette.[7]

She starred in the Asmara Beijing telefilm directed by Yusof Haslam, along with Syamsul Yusof and Norman Hakim, a telefilm aired on Astro Citra tells the story of Dira who took her to Beijing, China after sulking with her love for Rizal. The rest of the telefilm was filmed in Kuala Lumpur.[8] She then return as Amy in the film Jalan Kembali: Bohsia 2, sequel of the first film which premiered on 7 June 2012.[9]

Since 2014, offers to act in dramas and telefilms produced by other productions have been rejected by Salina simply because she loves Gerak Khas.[4]

Personal life

Salina was married in 2007 to Azmir Osman and had 2 daughters named Farah Syakira (born 2009) and Farah Aqeela (born 2015).[10] She is a person who cares about health aspects.[11]

On 25 March 2013, her eldest daughter, Farah Syakira who was affectionately known as Kiera came to the attention of the community when Farah rescued a boy who fell into the pool at her residence in a condominium in Cheras during a barbecue party event nearby. Salina said in an interview with Harian Metro: "The incident happened too fast. I did not think Kiera dared to pull the hand of the boy who almost drowned to save his life."[12]

On 9 July 2017, her father died of heart cancer.[13] Salina is also active in making and selling biscuits, especially during the fasting month of Ramadan.[14]
