Life and career
Consistency in first-class cricket continued to elude Baby in his formative years as a domestic cricketer, but he got off to a good start in limited-overs cricket, with a List A average in the mid-40s. He was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in the 2013 season, though he only got to play one match.
Better performances in the following years have seen him rise to the top and become an integral part of the state team. He is the current captain of the side and has formed a productive partnership with coach Dav Watmore, eventually taking the team to the Ranji Trophy semi-finals for the first time in history in the 2018–19 season.[2]
Captain of Kerala's limited-overs side, Sachin Baby scored heavily in the 2012–13 Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's premier domestic 50-over tournament. His century in the quarter-final earned Kerala a place in the final four of the tournament. Baby's penchant for limited-overs cricket earned him a contract with the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2013. RCB picked him up in the IPL Player Auction 2016.
In January 2018, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 IPL auction.[3]
