Early life
In his native country, Fante has played for a range of clubs at various levels, including GS United, and North York Azzurri in the Ontario Soccer League.[3] In 2007, he played with Toronto FC reserve team. In 2008, he played in the Canadian Soccer League with Vaughan Italia Shooters.[4] His playing position is that of an attacking player, frequently used on the wings or upfront to utilize his dribbling ability and speed to dangerous effect. As a teen, Fante was a standout player at SCPT in Toronto, Canada, an affiliate club of Sporting Lisbon. He was invited to train in Portugal at the famous football academy of Sporting Lisbon. After training for some time, Fante eventually returned to Canada.[5][6]
Career
Singapore
Fante sealed a move to Singaporean outfit Sengkang Punggol in 2010.The Canadian then recorded his first start in a 1–0 defeat to Albirex Niigata S and registered his first goal in a 1–1 tie with Beijing Guoan Singapore. Deployed as a winger or second striker, Fante often outdistanced opponents but failed to score on numerous occasions. By mid-season the player suffering from a severe foot injury and issues with fitness left the club by mutual consent to return home for treatment.[7]
Australia
Upon returning to football, Fante made a brief stop in Australia playing for semi-professional club Valentine Phoenix FC, with Canadians Adrian Butters and Shondell Busby. Fante scored several goals at the club before moving on.[8][9]
Mongolia
Upon leaving Australia, Rante was stuck between transfer windows and options were limited for playing destinations. Fante decided to take a risk in a bid to keep his form and traveled to Mongolia with a group of five foreign players. He signed with Khoromkhon FC in the Mongolian Premier League. The year proved to be a challenging one but at the same time a rewarding one as the team, strengthened by their foreign talent secured the League Cup and placed second in the 2012 Mongolian Premier League Standings.[10][11][12]
In 2014, Rante returned to play for FC Khoromkhon. The team had a 14-game unbeaten streak, the longest of all teams in the league. Fante scored several crucial goals that season including the winning goal in the league finals which finished 1-0 for Khoromkhon. Winning the 2014 Mongolian Premier League subsequently qualified the team for the AFC Cup.
In 2016, Fante was called upon for a return to the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar to play for Ulaanbaataryn Unaganuud FC. Fante, along with Japanese player Yosuke Minami, were standout players and always posed a threat for opposing sides with their quick link-up play. Unaganuud finished the league in fourth place, narrowly missing out on third due to goal differential in a third place showdown match.[13]
Fante signed a contract in 2017 for Deren FC but did not play that season. He eventually returned and played for Deren FC in the 2019 edition of the Mongolian Premier League. In Mongolia, Fante is known as ‘Райн Фантэ’. He is one of the countries most recognized foreign legionnaire players, winning a championship and having played there on 4 separate occasions with 3 different clubs.[14]
Outside of Playing
During off seasons in Asia, Fante has spent time away from the sport channeling his interests and talents through different business projects related to fashion and design. Developing grassroots football has also been a focus of Fante's. He has spent time in China working with young athletes who require specialized training programs with the aim of progressing to elite levels.[15]
