Premise

A home-schooled teenager who uses a wheelchair begins to suspect that her overprotective mother is keeping a dark, sinister secret from her.

Cast

Production

In June 2018, it was announced Lionsgate would produce, distribute, and finance the film, with Aneesh Chaganty directing from a screenplay he wrote, alongside Sev Ohanian. Ohanian and Natalie Qasabian will produce the film.[1] In October 2018, Sarah Paulson joined the cast of the film.[2] In December 2018, Kiera Allen joined the cast of the film.[3]

Principal photography began on October 31, 2018, and wrapped on December 18, 2018.[4]

Torin Borrowdale composes the film score, as he previously collaborated with Chaganty in Searching. According to Borrowdale, the goal for the film's musical direction was to achieve "the essence of Bernard Herrmann, but for a 2020 cinematic experience."[5]

Release

The film was scheduled to be released on May 8, 2020, coinciding with Mother's Day weekend.[6] However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was pulled from the schedule. Lionsgate intends to announce a new release date "once there is more clarity on when movie theaters" will reopen.[7] It was previously scheduled to be released on January 24, 2020.[8] In August 2020, Hulu acquired distribution rights to the film.[9]

gollark: But understanding maths *good*.
gollark: 3 has basically zero features, and 5 was one of the server-rendered iterations which had a few useful things.
gollark: It was much slower to develop.
gollark: I might have accidentally skipped one at one point, which would take us to 8, but who knows.
gollark: I think 3 and 5.
