Run (Nigerian film)

Run is a 2019 Nigerian thriller drama film starring Kiki Omeili, Rotimi Salami, Kelechi Udegbe, Owen Gee, Olarotimi Fakunle and Gergory Ojefua. The film was written by Kiki Omeili and directed by Uche Chukwu.[1] The film was shot on location in Lagos State.[2] It is the debut feature film production of Nigerian doctor, actress and film producer, Kiki Omeili.[3]

Plot

Tomilola Wright is a young advertising executive who generally lives a routine lifestyle in the city of Lagos, until one fateful night, when she goes out for her regular evening run and finds herself being a witness to a horrible crime. Tomilola then embarks on a run for her life, as she was spotted by the perpetrators of the crime. She ends up going through a lot of chaotic scenarios, as she navigates the Lagos nightlife.

The entire movie revolves around her experiences in that torrid evening in her search for redemption from the perpetrators of the crime she witnessed.

Production and release

Principal Photography began in 2018[4] and wrapped up on 18 June 2018.[5] The official trailer was released on August 6 2019 ahead of the cinematic release on August 23 2019.[6]

The film was selected to be screened at the 2019 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.[7] The movie also screened at the 2019 Real Time Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria. The movie was also selected for screening at the Silicon valley international film festival in California and the Slum international film festival in Kenya.[8]

Critical reception

The film enjoyed generally positive reviews, with movie reviewer, Esther Adeniyi giving it a 7/10 rating[9] and Trybe TV commending the cinematography.[10]


Awards and accolades

Run received an Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards nomination for Best Soundtrack for the titular track, Run by Timzil. The film received five nominations at the 2019 Golden Movie Awards in Ghana including a Golden Actress in a Comedy nod for Kiki Omeili and a Golden Actor in a Comedy for Olarotimi Fakunle.[11] The movie also won the award for Best International Female Filmmaker at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.[12]
