Roy Kapur Films is a film and digital media production house founded by Siddharth Roy Kapur. Siddharth is an eminent film producer, the President of the Producers Guild of India, and the former Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India. He has consistently featured in Variety’s Top 500 list of the most influential people in global entertainment. Roy Kapur Films develops and produces feature films and series across multiple genres, and its first production, The Sky Is Pink, was the only Asian film in 2019 to be selected for a Gala Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. More recently, Roy Kapur Films’ Yeh Ballet, a Netflix Original, is a musical drama that released to great acclaim.[1]

Establishment

Roy Kapur Films was founded by Siddharth Roy Kapur in 2017, the former Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company India. [2] [2] He is also the president of Film and Television Producers Guild of India. [3] [3] [4] [4] Pihu (2018) is the first film produced under RKF's banner.

Pihu (2018)

In 2017, RKF jointly produced Pihu, with RSVP Movies. The film premiered at the 2017 International Film Festival and was screened at Fajr Film Festival. It won the Best Feature Film in the International Competition category and the People's Choice award for Best Film at the 14th Trans-Saharan International Film Festival. [5] [5]

The Sky Is Pink (2019)

RKF has co-produced The Sky Is Pink, along with RSVP Movies and Purple Pebble Pictures, starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, and Zaira Wasim. [6] [6] The film is based on the love story of a couple, spanning 25 years, told through the lens of their spunky teenage daughter – Aisha Chaudhary, who was diagnosed with a terminal illness. [7] [7] The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival [15] and Busan Film Festival.[16]

Yeh Ballet (2020)

Yeh Ballet is a Netflix Original Film directed by Sooni Taraporevala and produced by Roy Kapur Films. [1] The film features two newcomers Manish Chauhan and Achintya Bose as the leads. The film also stars Julian Sands, Jim Sarbh, Danish Husain, Vijay Maurya, Heeba Shah, and Kalyanee Mulay. [2] The film is streaming on Netflix. [3] The film is a fictionalized version of a short documentary by Taraporevala by the same name. [4]

Upcoming projects

Kapur has signed director Vinil Mathews and screenwriter Supdip Sharma for RKF's upcoming production, Sinbad. The film is based on true events involving piracy on the Somalian high seas shared by an Indian merchant navy officer. [8] RKF will also be producing Bhule Bhatke Tiwari, a biopic of Rajaram Tiwari, a man who helped reunite lost people in Kumbh Mela. [9] [10] RKF will be producing Sooni Taraporevala's Yeh Ballet, the story of two slum boys from Mumbai. [11] Kapur has signed RS Prasanna for his upcoming project. [12] RKF has associated with Jio TV and Jio Cinema for long and short content. [13] [14]
