Ronnie Herel

Ronnie Herel is a disc jockey and a former radio presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra. His last show on 1Xtra was an R&B show on Monday nights 10 pm − 1 am and left the station in August 2012. Since October 2012 he presents the Big R&B Show on Monday nights from 9 to 12 pm, on Mi-Soul Radio.

He also hosted The 1xtra Chart Show and The Basement on 1Xtra and filled in on BBC Radio 1, doing the Saturday night 1 til 3 slot from January 2011 and Greg James' overnights show on many occasions.[1]

He has previously been nominated for two MOBO awards in the categories of Best Radio Show and UK Best Club DJ and was voted Best Club DJ by readers of Blues & Soul Magazine in 2000. He was also nominated for Best DJ at the Urban Music Awards 2008.[1]

He has also appeared on the BBC television programmes Babyfather and Holby City.[1]

Music

Herel was also a recording artist with his band Quartz, which made a number of hits in the early nineties. The biggest being "It's too Late", a Carole King cover sung by Dina Carroll, which reached No. 8 in the UK charts in 1991.[1] Quartz also collaborated with other musicians to create Clubland. Herel has supported artists such as Amp Fiddler and has performed on releases by the Brand New Heavies.[1]

He is currently making music under the moniker of 126 Blonds with fellow DJ LJ Blends. The 1st single "Imagination" is on promotional rounds ahead of their debut The Dark House EP scheduled for a summer 2013 release.

Herel was also co-director, with his wife Debra, of Uptown Records in London. They live in Leytonstone, East London.
