Rodney E. Hood

Rodney E. Hood is the eleventh Chairman of the National Credit Union Administration.[1] He was nominated to the position and to the NCUA Board on January 19, 2019, by President Donald J. Trump.[2][3] The U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment on March 14, 2019, and he took the oath of office on April 8, 2019.[4] Hood is the first African-American to lead a federal banking agency.

Career

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Hood obtained a Bachelor of Science in business, communications, and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[5]

Prior to his public service career, Hood worked for Bank of America as a Community Reinvestment Act officer. He later held positions at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company as marketing director and group sales manager. Hood also served as national director of the Emerging Markets Group for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and served on the board of the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation.[5]

From 2003 until 2005, Hood served as associate administrator of the Rural Housing Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.[5]

Hood was appointed to the NCUA Board by former President George W. Bush and served from November 2005 until August 2009[6]. He was appointed Vice Chairman and served as the NCUA’s representative on the Board of Directors of NeighborWorks America.[5]

Hood next worked as a corporate responsibility manager for JPMorgan Chase, managing national partnerships with non-profit organizations, financial regulators, and community stakeholders to promote financial inclusion in underserved and ethnic minority communities.[5][7]

As NCUA Board Chairman, Hood serves as a voting member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council. He also represents the NCUA on the Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council.[5]

Personal life

Hood served as a member of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Board of Visitors and as member of the UNC School of Arts Board of Trustees. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Museum of Art and as a member of the Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina College System.

His professional awards include being named one of the “40 Young Leaders Under the Age of 40” by the Triangle Business Journal in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also the first recipient of the “Dream Award,” an award given by the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation to honor individuals who have exhibited an outstanding commitment to affordable housing.

Hood was also named a Young Leader by the American Council on Germany where he represented the United States in Berlin and Munich for an intensive dialogue concerning domestic, bilateral, and global issues affecting both countries. In addition, Hood was also named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum where he’s a frequent participant at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland and regional conferences throughout the world. He maintains an active membership in both organizations.
