Richard Silverwood (born 1976,[2] in Dewsbury,[3] England) is a retired international rugby league referee.[3] He officiated in the Super League competition as one of the Rugby Football League's Full Time Match Officials until his retirement whilst suspended in July 2016.[2][4]
First games
His first pro game was York - Batley Bulldogs on 28 March 1999.[3]
His First Super League game was Halifax - Salford City Reds on 6 May 2001.[3]
He has refereed 465 Super League games up to the end of 2016[1]
He was Rugby Football League's referee of the year in 2006[3]
Challenge Cup
He has refereed the Challenge Cup Final in 2006 & 2010 & 2012[3]
Super League Grand Final
He has refereed the Super League Grand Final in 2010, 2012 & 2013[3]
World Club Challenge
He has refereed the World Club Challenge in 2010, 2015, 2016[5]
International
He has refereed 4 Australia v New Zealand Anzac Test in 2009[6] & 2010[7] & 2011[8] & 2012[9]
He has also refereed Australia v New Zealand in the 4 Nations in 2010[10]
He has refereed the 2013 Rugby League World Cup final.[11]
He was International Referee of the Year in 2010.
Suspensions
Silverwood was suspended three times by the Rugby Football League, in 2009, 2011 and at the time of his retirement in 2016.[2]
