Richard Bowman (cricketer)

Richard Bowman (26 January 1934 – 24 March 2005), nicknamed 'Big Dick,' and sometimes called Dick Dickiebow Bowman of Bowland, or simply Bo-Bo, was an English cricketer active from 1955 to 1964 who played for Oxford University, Lancashire and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). He was born in Cleveleys and died in Lancashire. He appeared in 26 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled right arm fast. He scored 454 runs with a highest score of 75 and held 15 catches. He took 51 wickets with a best analysis of seven for 60.[1]

Notes

  1. At Lancashire, he was often the leading fast bowler when Statham was on Test duty. But his greatest cricketing achievement of all was to be selected, twice, for Blackpool Cricket Club, in its heyday. After his cricketing days were over, he became a publican, in Whitewell, Clitheroe, a brewer, and Chairman of Lancashire County Cricket Club. He was generally regarded as the greatest publican of his generation, and perhaps the last 200 years. A competition to find the greatest publican in the world was due to be held in 1990, and he was the firm favourite to win, until the event was cancelled shortly before it was due to take place.
