Richard Amardi

Richard Amardi (born October 16, 1989) is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays for Charilaos Trikoupis of the Greek Basket League. He played college basketball for the University of Oregon, Indian Hills and Weatherford College.[1]

Early life and education

Richard Amardi was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Scarborough, Ontario. Amardi is of Ghanaian background and is the son of Maxwell and Elizabeth Amardi.

Amardi attended Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute (WCCI) in Scarborough, Ontario where he played basketball.

For the 2010-2011 season, Amardi played his first year of college basketball at Weatherford C.C. in Weatherford, Texas. He only played 12 games. He averaged 13.4 pts, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1 steal, and 1.1 blocks per game. Richard left the Coyotes for family reasons.

College career

Indian Hills

Amardi played for the Indian Hills Warriors in Iowa where he started as a power forward for the 2012-2013 season. He averaged 8.6 points, and 5.2 rebounds per game.[2]

Oregon Ducks

In his senior year Richard transferred from Iowa to the surroundings of Eugene, Oregon where he would be playing division one basketball with the Oregon Ducks. He played the power forward position in the starting lineup. Coached by Dana Altman he appeared in all 34 games, averaging 6.4 points per game and ranked second best in rebounding with 3.9 per game. Amardi was also ranked third on the team for blocked shots while ranking fifth in steals. In his first start of the year, Amardi scored a career-best 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 8 rebounds against Morgan State. Played one of his better games of his time with the Ducks at an away game in Washington where he racked up a season-high nine rebounds and three blocks to go along with 11 points.[3] [4]

Professional career

Amardi started his professional career close to home with the National Basketball League of Canada in 2014 where he played with the Brampton A's for two years. He averaged 15.2 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in his rookie season in 2014-2015. In the 2015-2016 season he averaged 11.9 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Amardi then joined the Niagara River Lions in the 2016-2017 season. Amardi averaged 12.8 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game with the River Lions. Amardi was named NBLC All- Canadian Third Team.

On August 22, 2017, Richard Amardi was selected to play for the Canadian Senior Men's National Team to compete in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 in Argentina.[5]

On August 7, 2020, Amardi signed with Charilaos Trikoupis in Greece.[6]

Personal life

Amardi was born in Toronto, Ontario. Amardi is of Ghanaian background. He is son of Maxwell (aka Max-B) and Elizabeth Amardi [7] and brother to Edward, Constance, Olivia and Crystal. He was raised in Cataraqui, Scarborough.
