Raymond de Sauvetât

Francis Raymond de Sauvetât, or Raymond of Toledo, was the Archbishop of Toledo from 1125 to 1152.[1] He was a French Benedictine monk,[2] born in Gascony.[3]

His most important work was the creation of a working group of translators that would later be known as the Toledo School of Translators. He ordered the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Toledo, reserving a section of the building for the School. The group recovered lost classical ancient texts of antiquity and promoted the delivery of major advances in the Toledo School of Medicine, algebra and astronomy.[4]

He attended the Council of Rheims in 1148.[5]

gollark: The standard library ones are nicer, except the particular way they're structured appears to not actually work for this.
gollark: The particularly annoying part is that the lower-level stuff seems to error in incomprehensible and weird ways.
gollark: These Rust bindings seem to effectively just be direct wrappers for the actual socket APIs, which are unpleasant to use.
gollark: But criticism is fun!
gollark: So they do a lot of work trying to map the register-machine machine code onto that while trying to maintain the illusion of being fast PDP-11s or something.
