Description

Ratchawong Pier located at the end of Ratchawong Road in the area of Chinatown close to historic and shopping districts, Sampheng and Song Wat Road. It is a stop for the Chao Phraya Express Boat. There is also a cross-river ferry service to Tha Dia Daeng area in Thonburi.

In the past (around King Rama V's reign), the Ratchawong Pier maybe considered as centre of maritime transport. Because it was the pier of the steamer, the stop for passenger ship, include a pier for loading cargos between small to the larger ships. At its glorious time there was direct tram route to the pier and around 11.00 p.m. or midnight during the Chinese New Year, it was also a pier that supports passengers to take the ferry to the Thonburi side to pay homage to Sampokong, a large Buddha statue of Wat Kanlayanamit as well.

Until time passed, water trade was sluggish. Ratchawong Pier therefore converted to an express boat and ferry piers only.[1] [2]

In addition, in the post-World War II era, this pier was considered a venue for teenagers similar to Siam Square at present. It was a center of many famous and tasty restaurants.[3]
