Early life

Brunson was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[6] She attended Temple University before dropping out to pursue a career in comedy.[7]

Career

Brunson garnered fans online by posting comedic videos to her Instagram in 2014.[8] In particular, her Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date series went viral and grew her digital fan base.[8][9][1] She then worked as a video producer for BuzzFeedVideo after first freelancing for the company.[10] Her videos primarily focused on problems experienced by twenty-somethings.[11]

In 2016, Brunson sold two web series as a development partner with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures:[12] one scripted comedy called Broke for Youtube Red, which she wrote, produced, and starred in;[3][13] the second was called Up for Adoption, and was produced by Verizon's go90 video platform, which she also starred in.[9] Brunson's performance in Broke was nominated for Best Acting in a Comedy at the Streamy Awards in 2017.[14]

Brunson left BuzzFeed in 2018.[1] Shortly after, she co-starred in a CW pilot called The End of the World as We Know It, her first network pilot.[4] The show was not picked up by the network. She also wrote and produced a series called Quinta vs. Everything that streams on Facebook Watch.[7][1]

On October 4, 2018, it was announced that a pilot co-produced by Brunson, Larry Wilmore, and Jermaine Fowler will be developed by CBS into a multi-cam comedy.[5] The pilot is called Quinta & Jermaine, and Fowler and Brunson will also star as longtime friends who must deal with an unplanned pregnancy.

In 2019, she appeared as Dr. Charli Collier on the supernatural comedy-drama series iZombie, and also voiced multiple characters in the animated series Lazor Wulf.[15] That fall, Brunson began to co-star and write in the HBO sketch comedy series A Black Lady Sketch Show, alongside Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, and Ashley Nicole Black.[16]

Brunson co-stars in the Syfy animated series Magical Girl Friendship Squad opposite Anna Akana, to be released in 2020.[17]

gollark: I mean, there's no search, backups are hard, you can't conveniently include nicely rendered diagrams, there are no links, you have to write text with a pen, storage actually costs non-negligible quantities of money.
gollark: Pen and paper are really quite bad.
gollark: There was in fact quite a long time before the cloud things of today, and people didn't (have to) just lose data constantly.
gollark: Or, well, unencrypted cloud things.
gollark: Then do backups, but not to cloud things.
