Puerto Rico Sol

Puerto Rico Sol Football Club is an association football club based in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. It currently plays in the Liga PR Femenina, the top women's league in Puerto Rico.[1] It is one of the most successful women's soccer teams in the Caribbean and Central America. Commonly referred to as Sol, or simply PRS, the club also operates an Academy, which is for players ages 6–17, and is located at Fajardo Soccer Stadium in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

Colors and badge

Club President Jose L. Perez Torres stated that fans would be involved in choosing the name, logo and "a color scheme that'll work with the yellow and blue and with a little bit of red mixed in."
Since its foundation, Puerto Rico Sol have always represented the nation of Puerto Rico. As a result, yellow, blue and red are the traditional colors of Puerto Rico Sol. The team's name, logo and colors were unveiled on August 27, 2017. The team's official colors are yellow (a symbol of the sun), victory red (representing national pride and passion), and blue (a symbol of the sea).

The logo features a beaming sun and two blue waves above three red stripes. The three red stripes represent the Puerto Rican heritage.

Stadium

Puerto Rico Sol play most of their home matches at Mayaguez Athletics Stadium in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Mayaguez Stadium is owned by the city of Mayaguez and has a capacity of 12,800 with 5,100 of those being roofed seats.
The Mayagüez Athletics Stadium hosted the athletics and soccer games of the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

In 2020 the stadium will host invitational tournament Puerto Rico Cup. The stadium has a soccer field based on the requisites of International Federation of Association Football, it also has a 400-meter track which complies with the parameter of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Soccer Center

Mayaguez Stadium is a soccer center, encompassing international standard playing field, one smaller training field and 1 beach soccer field. It is located on the shore of Mayaguez Bay. The center also includes a medical office, gym, fitness room and cafeteria.

Academy

Puerto Rico Sol FC Academy is the reserve team of Puerto Rico Sol FC. The team generally consists of players 14–18 years old but at times senior players also play for the reserves when they are recuperating from injury.
The team trains and plays at the Fajardo Stadium and generally competes against US based clubs. The club also competes in some domestic competitions.

The Academy programs are operated as part of a global approach to player development. The Academy teams offer comprehensive, focused and intense training environments that are designed to develop elite-level players, preparing them for D1 colleges, professional playing careers and international futbol.
Developing world class players is at the center of the club's philosophy and the Sol is committed to establishing the Academy as one of the best in the world. The Academy trains players from the U6 age group up to the U17 squad. The Academy has separate head coaches in charge of development in the U13, U15 and U17 age groups.

The schedule of the Puerto Rico Sol Academy consists of a ten-month season which begins in September and finishes in July. During the season each academy team expects to play between 25 and 30 games.

Each age group has its own distinctive structure. The U-13 program has players practice more often, but play in fewer games. The U-15 program attend 2 showcases throughout the year and play in games. The U-17 age group competes in two national showcases and regular season games.

Community

Puerto Rico Sol FC hosts a wealth of activity in the local area and across Puerto Rico through its Sol in the Community, and Sol in Schools programs. The programs offer youth an opportunity to learn and play the game while positively impacting the lives of girls and women in need.

Supporters

The Cariduros del Sol is an official fan group for the Puerto Rico Sol FC.
Many fanzines, blogs, podcasts and fans websites have been dedicated to the club and the fans have rivalries with several other clubs.

Cariduros del Sol was founded by Nilson Janiel.

The group is known for their "Game Fiestas" game day tailgate parties, located in parking lot 1 outside the entrance of Mayaguez Stadium.
Cariduros has an official theme song - Sol, Always Number One.
