Getting there

Ponnai is a panjayat for around 18 village's in Tamil Nadu. The entrance of Ponnai is greeted by a river that must be crossed via a bridge to enter Ponnai. It is surrounded by temples. One of the famous places to visit near Ponnai is Vallimalai; according to Vallimalai, it is a place where Valli, the daughter of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi was born (i.e. via the sweat drop from Lakshmi that fell on the grass at this place, and later on consumed by a deer, thereafter Valli was born via the deer). Raised up by the chief of the tribe, Valli grew up to be a beautiful damsel. Narada Muni recounted about Valli with Muruga, thereby Muruga went to woo the damsel Valli. After several vain attempts and finally with Ganesha's help, Valli and Muruga are united. They elope from Vallimalai and settle down at Thirutthani which is 38 km from Ponnai. Another important place to visit near Ponnai is Thengal Ashram The weather is a bit hot around these places, the best time of the year to visit would be from October to January, buses frequent these places on a daily basis and this place is 38 km from Vellore where the famous CMC hospital is situated, people in and around Ponnai are very friendly. In ponnai very old and famous G.B.H.S school and G.G.H.S school (Tamil medium - state board), where thousands of doctors and engineers from this school.

Swarna Vinayagar (Lord Ganesha) and Navagra's Temple is 3 km from Ponnai main bus stand. The village name is called oddaneri, from ponnai bus stand auto's are available frequently. This is very famous Temple since 1985.
