Polycatenane
Polycatenane[1] is the polymer consists of mechanically linked catenane structures. According to the location of the catenane structures in the polymer chain, the polcatenanes can be divided into main-chain polycatenane and side-chain polycatenane. [n]-Catenane (n is a large number), which is constructed solely by the mechanically interlocked cyclic components, can be viewed as “optimized” polycatenane.
The characteristic feature of a polycatenane compound, that distinguishes it from other polymers, is the presence of mechanical bonds in addition to covalent bonds.
