Political Consultative Assembly

The 1946 Political Consultative Conference was a political meeting convened in Chongqing by the Nationalist Government of China from January 10-31.[1][2]

It was attended by representatives of the Kuomintang, the Communist Party of China, the China Democratic League, and the Chinese Youth Party, as well as independent delegates.

The conference passed five agreements which were:

  1. restructuring the government
  2. founding a new state peacefully
  3. solving military issues
  4. convening the national assembly
  5. drafting a Constitution.

The meeting is considered to be a predecessor to the modern Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference convened by the PRC. The peaceful deliberation was to be shortlived, however, as hostilities during the Chinese Civil War would eventually resume in a few months.
