Poblacion, Alabel
Poblacion is an urban barangay in the Municipality of Alabel, Sarangani Province, Philippines. According to 2010 Census, it has a population of 19,689.[1]

Political history
The first barangay captain of Barangay Poblacion was Loreta del Rio Lopez who served as Teniente del barrio.[2]
The second Punong Barangay was Honorio Lalisan. A street was named after him. Lalisan and its family were considered Alabel's first settlers.[3]

Purok
Poblacion consisted of 25 puroks. Puroks were headed by a chairman who was elected by the people upon DEPED Supervision. Purok Chairman received an honorarium and given a barangay position like Lupon Tagapamayapa member, BHW, and Tanod.
Mr. Arnold Navarro Sope, a nephew of former Vice Mayor Honorio C. Navarro, was the longest-serving Purok Chairperson of Barangay Poblacion, Alabel. He started his political sojourn in 1998 as purok kagawad of Purok 10-Sto. Niño, Poblacion. Mr. Sope ran as chairperson of Purok 10 in 2002 and defeated his political rivals. He re-elected three times in 2005, 2009 and 2012. A joint DepEd and Barangay Council Resolution, an indefinite term were vested to all Purok Leaders including Arnold Sope and his purok councils. The efforts of Mr. Sope to improve his community by allowing Barangay funds enter to his purok. Projects include the renovation of Community Stage and Basketball court, The construction of Purok Day Care Center and Purok Community Hall, the installation of Streetlights, and other benefit programs, particularly in sports and youth empowerment.[5]
Economy
Alabel Mega Public Market was located in the heart of Barangay Poblacion. Entrepreneurs and business owners must secure a copy of Barangay clearance before the Municipal Licensing Office can issue a Business Permit and local chief executive can sign a Mayor's Permit.
Retailed stores and stalls must also secure a clearance from the Barangay Secretariat.
Raw Products such as corn and coconut were Poblacion's main agricultural crops.
Youth Development Task Force - Poblacion
Youth were essential in running a community. Future leaders came from this sector. Youth Development Task Force[6], It is hereby declared that the State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation building and shall protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being and inculcate in them patriotism and encourage their active participation in public and civic affairs (Art. II, Sec. 13 of the 1987 Phil. Constitution)</ref> of Barangay Poblacion was mandated by the Barangay Council to promote programs beneficial to the youth such educational campaign and immersion activities.
Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Poblacion
Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council[7] was composed of elected youth leaders during a nationwide simultaneous Barangay and SK Election. The SK was responsible in giving priority to improving the youth sector in the community. The current SK Chairman of Poblacion, Alabel was Hon. Generose Navarro.[8]
Scholarship
ISKOLAR NG BARANGAY POBLACION (I.B.P SCHOLARSHIP). This was flagship scholarship Grant of Barangay Poblacion. I.B.P Scholarship was a brainchild of Former Barangay Kagawad Hon. Efraim "Tata" Galzote (now a Municipal Councilor)launched in 2014. A stipend of P 3,500 every semester or P 7,000 annually until completing a degree of a maximum of five (5) years. Only indigent Tertiary students with passing grades can proceed to the program. In 2018, 20 Iskolar ng Barangay Poblacion Grantee finished their degree ranging from Education to Agriculture.[9]
Housing
Alabel has vast lands available suited for both the upscale and mass housing industries.
The first-ever PPP (Public-Private Partnership) initiated housing project in Sarangani opened its doors to the first batch of occupants in January 2012.[10] Called as "The Capitol Residences", it is the housing project of the provincial government, in a joint venture with Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) and Sarangani Land and Development Corporation, which translates the commitment of provincial leaders to provide better shelter through medium grade but affordable housing facility for its employees.
Infrastracture
Infrastructural Projects were initiated by the Barangay Poblacion Sanggunian (Barangay Council) headed by the Punong Barangay. A Committee was made to facilitate infrastructure and programs intended for public works and security.[11]

Barangay Health Advocacy
Barangay Health Workers or BHW took charge of propagating health education and basic health services such as free medicine and physician's consultation. BHWs were subsidized by Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Alabel. Midwives and nurses were assigned by the local government to facilitate Barangay Poblacion's health concerns.
Barangay Health Scholars served as a force multiplier that helped MHO's programs like immunization, vaccinations and maternal health services.
Prominent resident
Prominent residents of Barangay Poblacion includes politicians, educators, religious leaders, entrepreneurs and other professionals that imparted significantly to the barangay in many aspects such as economic, political, religious and social dimensions.
- Florentina Salarda - A former Punong Barangay and third female community chieftain of Barangay Poblacion. Mrs. Salarda was a retired elementary teacher. She was the mother of Hon. Vic Paul Salarda, Alabel's current local executive.
- Alfredo Radaza - A former Municipal Councilor responsible for the strategic geographical arrangement of Alabel.
- Godofredo Maghanoy - A Catholic priest who served as Parish Priest of San Isidro Labrador Parish of Alabel in 2002-2005. Known for combatting corruption in the Provincial Capitol.
- Paterno Sope - A businessman and the first Alabelian to own a gasoline-powered refrigerator. His Pater Junkshop rose in prominence in early 2000.[12]
- Honorio C. Navarro - A former Municipal Vice Mayor of Alabel. Known for his humility and generosity. Honorio Navarro Street in Purok 9, Poblacion, Alabel, Sarangani Province was named in his honor as public servant and model of true service.[13]
- Alicia O. Flores - A former Punong Barangay of Poblacion. Mrs. Flores was the spouse of late Gregorio Flores, a philanthropist and early settler of Alabel.
- Erlando Enero - A former Barangay Councilor of Barangay Poblacon. His humility and simplicity made him close to the people. Lando ran as Punong Barangay but lose to Mrs. Salarda in 2011.
Leadership
The current Punong Barangay of Poblacion, Alabel, Sarangani Province was Hon. Herculano Lacaba, Sr. He was known as "Kapitan Coling". Alleged involvement in illegal gambling game known as "Last Two" was always connected to him.[14]

Religion
San Isidro Labrador Parish Church was located in Poblacion. Poblacion was divided into two (2) zones in both Zone 7 and 8. Every zona were also divided into community chapels known as GKK or Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC).[16]
Other Christian Denominations were also located in the barangay such as Seventh Day Adventist Church, Assembly of God, Miracle Life Church, Good News Church, General Baptist Church, Southern Baptist Church, Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormons, Ang Dating Daan Ministry, Iglesia sa Dios Espiritu, Iglesia sa Espirito sa Kamatuoran, and Aglipayan Church.
Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), Lokal ng Alabel, was in Purok 3, Poblacion, Alabel.[17]
Another religion such as Islam was located in Alabel were Maguindanaon, Tausug and Maranao tribes resided and engaged in RTW and Halal businesses. A community mosque was located in Purok 4.
